Everybody desires flawless silky skin, no matter what gender, race or age. With the passing of time, our skin starts to show signs of uneven skin tone and discolouration.
What is Hyperpigmentation?
Skin contains melanocyte cells that produce melanin, a pigment that gives skin its colour. Too much melanin leads to hyper-pigmented skin:
– Freckles
– Age and sun spots
– Melasma
– Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Causes of Hyperpigmentation:
– Sun exposure and heat
– Trauma to the skin
– Side effect of certain medication
– Hormonal changes
How Deep is the Melanin?
Superficial or epidermal pigmentation is much easier to treat, while dermal or deep pigmentation requires more invasive skin lightening treatments.
This explains why some skin lightening treatments work well for some and not at all for others!
